Rising 12th grade students will be required to have a Meningococcal vaccine (MCV/MenACWY) by the beginning of their 12th grade year (2020-2021). This vaccine is required for ALL students in North Carolina who will be entering 12th grade in the fall of 2020.
For students who received this immunization as a requirement for 7th grade in 2015, this will be the required second dose. Students who received their first dose at age 16 or after are NOT required to get the second dose.
Additionally, students entering 7th grade are now required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines.
Please contact your health care provider or local health department if your child needs these vaccines. For additional information about the vaccines and diseases they protect against visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/who/teens/index.html. You must turn in your complete immunization record to the school nurse at the beginning of the 2020 - 2021 school year.
