From L to R: Byrd, Gullion and McKoy
Three tenth graders at Chatham Charter School have been accepted into the NC School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) Online program. Lorelei Byrd, Sarah Gullion, and Brandon McKoy will begin participating in the program as upperclassmen in addition to their academic studies at Chatham Charter. They will be able to take STEM courses that fit their areas of interest.
The highly competitive program accepts academically gifted students to take sequenced honors courses during their last two years of high school while they remain enrolled at their regular high schools. Participants also have opportunities to be involved occasionally in activities on the NCSSM campus in Durham where they are able to interact with residential students as well as peers in the online program.
Chatham Charter has had previous alumni in the program, but never three members of a single class.
“We are ecstatic that multiple students in the Class of 2022 have proven to be strong candidates for the NCSSM Online program. Our alumni who were part of the program gained invaluable experience, networking, and academic resume building from their affiliation with the School of Science and Mathematics. Having this option available for our top students is an excellent way to expand the college preparatory program we have established here at Chatham Charter,” said Dr. John Eldridge, Head of School at Chatham Charter.
